Taylor Swift may be the most unusual of pop stars. She was an artist who was able to successfully cross the divide between pop and country music and conquer the world. Swift let go of the influences from her country music as if they were an additional layer of skin. She revealed that she was one of the best singers/songwriters of her generation. Swift could make the occasion personal, or use it to her advantage. The first songs she released, such as the neotribute for Tim McGraw were a testament to her talents. But, her follow-up album Fearless of 2008 proved to be the songwriter finding her voice and a wider audience. The album was hugely successful and not just in the US and six of the singles were certified platinum in the wake of Top Ten hit songs Love Story and Belong with Me. But the album also enjoyed a great reception across all over the world. Swift's next album Speak Now, released just two years after the previous one, built on this momentum. The album propelled Swift into the spotlight. The singer's popularity increased through her subsequent three albums: Red (2012), 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017). Swift had now established herself in a genre where she belonged. It was not long before she reformulated her approach by releasing 2020's streamlined the folk singer (and Evermore) and stayed in the forefront of pop culture.
